Our client, a private real estate investment and property management company in NYC, is seeking an experienced Landlord-Tenant Attorney to join its in-house legal team. This is a hands-on position focused on both commercial and residential landlord-tenant matters, with substantial responsibility for managing disputes and representing the company in court.

The attorney will report directly to the General Counsel and will have the opportunity to take ownership of a broad landlord-tenant docket while working in a stable, professional in-house environment.

Responsibilities

  • Handle a broad range of commercial and residential landlord-tenant matters.
  • Advise the company on landlord-tenant issues and applicable New York rent regulations.
  • Draft pleadings, motions, legal correspondence, memoranda, and other litigation documents.
  • Appear in court and advocate on behalf of the client.
  • Argue motions and independently handle landlord-tenant proceedings.
  • Handle matters through litigation and, where appropriate, trial.
  • Work closely with the General Counsel and internal stakeholders regarding legal strategy and risk.
  • Monitor developments in New York landlord-tenant law and rent regulations and advise the business accordingly.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of relevant landlord-tenant experience.
  • Substantial experience handling commercial and/or residential landlord-tenant matters.
  • Strong knowledge of New York landlord-tenant law and rent regulations.
  • Comfortable appearing in court and independently managing proceedings.
  • Demonstrated experience arguing motions.
  • Trial experience strongly preferred.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Strong judgment and ability to manage matters independently.
  • New York bar admission required.

Compensation & Location

  • Base salary up to $250,000, depending on experience
  • Discretionary bonus
  • Fully in-office, 5 days per week
  • Midtown Manhattan office 
  • Typical hours are approximately 9:00 AM–6:00 PM
  • Reports directly to the General Counsel
