Overview
The Financial Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of finance, including accounting, reporting, cash flow, compliance, and strategic planning. This role requires both hands-on execution, such as bookkeeping, reconciliations, and payroll oversight, as well as high-level analysis, including forecasting, financial modeling, and client reporting. A key responsibility will be managing financial operations and reporting for a major client account, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and contractual alignment.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day bookkeeping and monthly closes in accounting software
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow)
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and tax requirements
- Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses
- Monitor cash flow, working capital, and runway, flagging issues early
- Implement cost controls and optimize vendor/contractor payments
- Oversee payroll processing and ensure proper tax withholdings, filings, and benefits administration
- Manage state and federal tax filings with external partners
- Maintain corporate compliance, including licenses, filings, and audits
- Evaluate and manage business insurance policies
- Oversee client billing, invoicing, and collections, ensuring contract compliance
- Prepare and deliver client financial reporting packages, including reconciliations, audit support, and cost-based reporting
- Ensure alignment between internal accounting and client-facing obligations
- Partner with operations and client teams to ensure financial transparency across projects
- Build dashboards, KPIs, and metrics for decision-making
- Evaluate new business opportunities and pricing models
- Advise leadership on long-term financial strategy and growth planning
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (MBA or CPA a plus)
- 5+ years of progressive finance experience, ideally in a startup or high-growth company
- Strong knowledge of accounting standards, tax, and compliance
- Hands-on experience with QuickBooks, payroll systems, and financial modeling in Excel/Google Sheets
- Experience managing client financials, reporting, and audit requirements
- Fluency in English and Spanish (written and spoken)
- Proven ability to build and implement financial processes from scratch
- Excellent communication skills and ability to present financial information to leadership and clients
- Adaptable and entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to operate in a lean, fast-changing environment
